Colorful outfits bloom amidst a dark forest, on the side of a deserted road, under a cloudy sky, in the backseat of a large car. The models, dressed in an unusual and stunning way—the sort seen only at fashion shows—step off the runway straight onto empty fields and muddy paths. They aren’t afraid to get their gloves or heels dirty; they aren’t afraid of self-distance or having a good time.
The stereotypical vision of gender brooks no opposition and creates divisions, demanding that we draw a thick line between what is perceived as masculine and what is perceived as feminine. In our photographs, both of these elements can freely play hide-and-seek, both with each other and with the viewer. The viewer can choose whether to perceive them as two separate entities, juxtaposed in contrast, or to allow them to intertwine and blend together.
